All in all, this season has been gratifying since Fernando Alonso has been so incredibly quick and consistent. For his youth, he seems a very mature driver, and he appears to have the balance of his emotions and ego placed in proper perspective. In short, the guy is super talented and very cool. This is the best thing that could happen to Formula 1.


As far as Indianapolis is concerned, I believe there were unseen forces that may be quite pleased to see Formula 1 fall flat on its face here in America. Of course, when viewed from a strictly fan perspective, the entire episode was one giant farcical disappointment.


Several matters come to mind. Michelin, the internationally known and recognized tire company somehow did not do the necessary research and showed up in America without a tire that was capable of performing on the Indy track surface. Granted, Bridgestone had been at the 500, so they naturally would have had more data on the track surface and so were well advised in what compounds they had chosen prior to arriving at the Brickyard. It is astounding however, when you analyze the sequence of events. That first and foremost, a tire company participating in Motor racing at the highest level of international competition with billions of dollars involved throughout the entire enterprise, would be capable of going in blindly without having at least examined what options they might need to have or what kind of obstacles they might be expected to incur. It was not a secret that the race track had been resurfaced in some way or another which resulted in a grittier more abrasive characteristic.


Michelin shows up and discovers that the tires they have are relatively useless and worse yet they are dangerous. Ralf Schumacher goes off in a high speed shunt, and one other driver whose name escapes me now, goes out as well, and all the while Michel in have no clue. Except they do realize and admit that the safety of the drivers precludes them from simply pressing forward and acting as if everything would be alright. For this I give them a certain degree of respect.


So when the windup ensues you have the race itself, and all that it represents in terms of the perennial desire for Formula 1 to someday, somehow establish itself firmly and loyally in the minds and hearts of American racing fans.


And then you have the internecine intrigue between the intricately drawn factions of the International Grand Prix circus. Here we enter into cultural, financial, philosophical, and not the least, personal conflicts and long standing animosities.


From the Bridgestone perspective, why would they have wished to smooth over a gaffe that exposed their world's greatest rival as something of a complete incompetent?

From the FISA point of view, I suppose they felt they would open a Pandora's box of possibilities wherein which rules that are so incredibly complex, must be continuously revised and reformatted to account for so many variables within the sport and the technology that it draws from in large measure. These rules would perhaps then be the constant point of negotiation as other points of departure would come into question.

Finally, Scuderia Ferrari was showing as much compassion as the Italian Expeditionary Tank forces extended to Hailee Sallase and his vastly out numbered, camel bourne , sling shot bearing defense force in Ethiopia. Another less than memorable episode in 20th century Italian history.

FISA was in no way potent enough by way of silent persuasion to effectuate an ultimate compromise. Max Mosley would have been wise, in my opinion, to have made his way to the paddock and the negotiating table, because the entire BRAND of Formula 1 was suffer ring a devastating blow to its credibility, marketability, and general point of popular acceptance.

As it turns out, he remained somewhere in Europe, Paris I suppose, and from that distance felt safe enough while allowing Ecclestone to bear all of the justifiable ire and resentment from those fans who made their weekend around seeing a genuinely competitive International Grand Prix. They deserve, and I believe they eventually will receive, their money for admission refunded.

Furthermore, Mr. Ecclestone is one person who would have, if he were able, in and of his own will, put together a compromise solution so as to have the racing fans enjoy what they had come to see. There is no one that I know, in or out of Formula 1 who is more desirous of establishing a permanent presence and appreciation for Grand Prix racing in the U.S. than Bernie Ecclestone. He has made repeated attempts to educate, if you will, the civic leaders here in Las Vegas about the kind of product that Formula 1 confirms as unique and attended by a very high end marketing segment with disposable income far greater than what is demographically described by the NASCAR and other forms of all American motor r

Douglas A-1 “Skyraider”

The Douglas “Skyraider”, powered by a Wright R-3350 18-cylinder radial engine producing 2700 hp, could carry more than 8,000 lbs in bombs, is considered to be the best propeller attack aircraft ever produced, and yet it was literally designed over night in a hotel room. Douglas designers were in Washington, DC in 1944 to see if they could still bid on a new aircraft design for the Navy, and were informed that the new aircraft would only be considered if they produced the plans the next morning. The engineers returned to their hotel, worked all night, and the next morning presented the new design to the Navy, which accepted the plans. Although first flown in March of 1945, first production did not come off the assembly line until 1946, too late for the “Skyraider” to see action in WWII. However, the “Skyraider” served in both Korea and Vietnam where it earned the reputation for the ability to carry heavy loads, loiter for long periods over the target, and absorb large amounts of battle damage and still return home. The most famous role of the “Skyraider” was that of “Sandy” missions in Vietnam, which was the escorting of rescue helicopters to the sites of downed airmen and providing suppressing fire during the retrieval of the pilots. Although it had a propeller and couldn’t fly nearly as fast as the jet aircraft of that era, it could stay at the rescue site and drop bombs and rockets for extended time periods until the pilots were extracted.

Pictured above, Bureau No. 135178, a Douglas AD-5W/EA-1E, was accepted by the Naval Bureau of Aeronautics at El Segundo, CA on June 30, 1953. It then served with VMA-332 in Korea aboard the USS Ranger, making 70 traps during its sea-borne career. During the next 20 years this particular aircraft flew 2,300 hours and was also one of the last Skyraiders retired by the military, leaving active duty on June 17, 1973. It is one of only four AD5/A1Es still flying in the world today, and this specific model is the largest single engine airplane ever built, with an 18 cylinder 3350 cubic inch engine that produces 3020 hp. The AD-5W/EA-1E has six seats in the crew cabin and is currently owned and operated by Eric Downing, President of Midwest Wild Relics Refuge LLC, based at Creve Coeur Airport in Saint Louis, MO. first night. oh god. i was a wreck. tired, hungry, missing everyone, alone, depressed, jetlagged. only had one roommate that night who i didnt even see. there were 5 beds total. one little window. ick. i love a lot of light. pretty comfy bed though, clean sheets.

Era nuestro tercer dia en la Ruta y el cuarto en esta aventura que, mas que nada, fue gratificante. Justo despues de desayunar, nos pusimos los cascos y partimos camino de Claremore, Oklahoma. Mientras corriamos por la Interestatal 44 y en algunos tramos viables por la 66, ibamos encontrando numerosos campamentos indios dedicados a la venta de souvenirs, cosa irresistible para cualquier viajero que se precie.

Mas tarde, despues de cruzarnos con el segundo Springfield que vimos (en Missouri), en Halltown encontramos el “Larry’s Collectibles”, una choza repleta de articulos de marca Coca-Cola: botellas antiguas, chapas, cajas, neones… Entramos a echar un vistazo para luego seguir con nuestra ruta. Es asi como siguiendo con nuestras andanzas fuimos a parar al primer pueblo que nos encontramos cruzando la frontera hacia Kansas, Galena. Este seria el unico pueblo que visitaramos en el estado conocido como The Sunflower State, y alli paramos a comer en "Mi Torito", un restaurante mejicano junto a la "Will Rogers Highway" (llamada asi por el famoso humorista que recorria la 66 siempre cuanto pudiera).

Por la tarde, cogiendo de nuevo la 66, llegamos a Claremore hospedandonos en Best Western Will Rogers Inn. Una vez dejamos las maletas, tuvimos tiempo de preparar una pequena fiesta de cumpleanos para Lobo, que en aquel dia cumpliria los 50 anos en un lugar donde siempre habia querido estar, en la Route 66.

Finalmente, y una vez sorprendido nuestro companero por su pastel de zanahoria con una vela, jugamos unas cuantas partidas a los billares en el bar del hotel. El jet lag lo teniamos casi superado, y nuestras andanzas andaban cogiendo un temperamento mas vivaz a medida que nos acercabamos al lugar que nos hizo sentir las ganas de conocer este lugar, aparte del la propia Route 66: el Viejo y Lejano Oeste.

Recomendacion a los viajeros: Es interesante visitar los diferentes puestos de venta de recuerdos porque siempre puedes conversar con gente de todas las nacionalidades (en ingles o por signos, da lo mismo). Se aprende mucho sobre la vision de cada persona acerca de diferentes aspectos de la vida.

It was our third day on the route and the fourth in this adventure more than anything, was gratifying. Just after breakfast, we put on helmets and set off towards Claremore, Oklahoma. As we ran along Interstate 44 and on some stretches viable by 66, we met many Indian camps devoted to the sale of souvenirs, something irresistible to any self-respecting traveler.

Later, after crossing the second Springfield we saw, in Halltown (Missouri) we find the "Larry's Collectibles", a shack full of items that Coca-Cola: antique bottles, plates, boxes, neon lights... We went to take a look and then continue our route. Thus continuing with our adventures we ended the first people that we are crossing the border into Kansas, Galena. This would be the only town we visited in the state known as The Sunflower State, where we stopped for lunch in "Mi Torito”, a mexican restaurant near the "Will Rogers Highway "(named after the famous comedian that ever walked the 66th as it could).

In the afternoon, taking back the 66th, we reached with accommodations in Claremore, in Best Western Will Rogers Inn. Once we put our suitcases, we had time to prepare a small birthday party for Lobo, who fulfilled 50 years on that day in a place where he always wanted to meet, the Route 66.

Finally, once our partner surprised by his carrot cake with a candle, play a few games to billiards in the hotel bar. The jet lag we had almost passed, and our adventures were gathering more vivacious temperament as we approached the place that made us feel the urge to visit this place, apart from their own Route 66: the Old and Far West.

Travel advisory: It is interesting to visit the various stalls selling souvenirs because you can always chat with people from all nationalities (in English or signs, it does no care). You learn a lot about the vision of each person on different aspects of life.

La Honda NSX o Acura NSX America e un'autovettura prodotta dalla dal 1990 al 2005.
Nel 1984 la Honda commissiono al designer automobilistico italiano Pininfarina la progettazione della HP-X (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental),inn seguito la Honda ha deciso di proseguire attivamente il progetto, cosi la HP-X si e evoluta in NS-X (New Sportcar eXperimental). Lo sviluppo del prototipo NS-X e l'eventuale produzione in serie fu guidato dal capo Designer esecutivo Ken Okuyama e dal capo ingegniere Shigeru Uehara.L'obbiettivo iniziale della NS-X erano le prestazioni della Ferrari. La Honda NS-X era stata designata per eguagliare o superare le prestazioni della Ferrari, offrendo al contempo l'affidabilita famosa della casa e un prezzo piu basso.Il design della carrozzeria e stato specificatamente studiato da Okuyama e Uehara dopo aver visto e studiato la visibilita a 360° all'interno di un cockpit del jet da combattimento F-16. La NS-X e stata poi studiata per mostrare molte soluzioni tecniche Honda provenienti dal programma Motorsport.La NS-X e stata la prima auto di produzione con innovative soluzioni tecniche: il telaio, le sospensioni e il corpo vettura che e stato interamente ricavato dall'alluminio con altre leghe esotiche.Ha inoltre un ABS a quattro canali indipendenti, bielle del motore in titanio per consentire il funzionamento ad alti giri, un sistema di servosterzo elettrico e il sistema VTEC e nel 1995 il primo controllo elettronico della valvola a farfalla.La Honda spese una grande quantita di tempo e denaro per sviluppare la NS-X. Con un grande apparato Motorsport, aveva significative risorse a sua disposizione e ne ha fatto ampio uso. Ad esempio, Satoru Nakajima un pilota giapponese di Formula 1 e stato coinvolto nello sviluppo della NS-X sulla pista di Suzuka, dove ha svolto test di lunga durata sui componenti meccanici e la messa a punto del telaio. Ma la principale risorsa della Honda fu il pilota Ayrton Senna che aveva convinto la Honda a irrigidire il telaio.L'auto fece la sua prima apparizione in pubblico come NS-X al salone dell'auto di Chicago nel febbraio 1989 e al motor show di Tokyo nel mese di ottobre 1989. Gli appassionati furono stupiti dalla sua ridotta altezza e dalle linee slanciate. Prima della produzione finale la Honda cambio il nome dell'auto da NS-X a NSX. L'auto fu venduta con il marchio Honda in Giappone nel 1990, mentre l'anno dopo fu venduta anche in Nord America e Hong Kong sotto il marchio Acura.
La NSX ha fatto tre apparizioni alla 24 Ore di Le Mans, nel 1994, 1995 e 1996.
Tre Honda NSX sono state iscritte nella 24 Ore di Le Mans del 1995. Il Team Honda Factory porto una NSX con motore turbo e una con un motore aspirato, che sono state iscritte nella classe GT1 con i numeri 46 e 47. La numero 46 fini la corsa, ma non si classifico per non aver riuscito a completare il 70% della distanza del vincitore. La numero 47 e stata costretta al ritiro a causa della rottura del cambio e della frizione.Una terza NSX, numero 84, fu preparata con un motore ad aspirazione naturale e gestita dal Kunimitsu Team Honda nella classe GT2. Questa NSX, guidata da Keiichi Tsuchiya, Akira Iida, e Kunimitsu Takahashi, si piazzo 8° assoluta e prima nella classe GT2 dopo aver completato 275 giri.Modello che ho cercato con cura,uno di quelli che maggiormente mi interessava,e' fabbricato dalla Ebbro,specialista nei marchi giapponesi,un discreto modello dalle forme forse un po troppo ruvide.
